Week 5: A Megillah Retrospective
Decoding the Mystery of Esther's Ninth

Lecture

In this week's lecture, we take a close look at Esther's Ninth chapter, and try to figure out what the big deal is. In deciphering why the digression at the heart of the chapter isn't really a digression, we find new keys to understanding the thrust of the Megillah -- and more reverberations from the parashah of annulment of vows back in the Book of Numbers.

Powerpoint

This week' powerpoint traces iterations of "annulment" and "establishing", (deriving from Numbers chapter 30), as they weave themselves throughout Esther's Ninth. Along the way, it seeks to make sense of the digression at the heart of Esther's ninth chapter.

If the powerpoint doesn't work on your system, feel free to download Microsoft's free powerpoint viewer. Or, take a look at a printout of the slides in pdf format. (If you choose this last approach, though, you won't get the animation).
